Earth Day, April 22nd

As you may or may not know Wednesday, April 22nd marks the observance of Earth Day, a day that many people ignore and do not celebrate. On a similar note, today is April 20th ("0420") a widely observed counterculture holiday. (laughs)

But, I digress. "Earth Day" is a day in which we celebrate and appreciate our planet Earth and it's miraculous environment. But why devote a day or an entire week to the Earth? What is the point, you ask? Commercial gimmickry?

Well, no. It's more than that. Within our 'known' universe and human existence, the Earth is the only planet that is capable of sustaining life, retaining a breathable oxygenated atmosphere, and producing vast quantities of liquid water. Our Earth is a Goldilocks planet; not too cold and not too hot. It's just right (with respect to the distance from our Sun). That is not to say that other planets in this universe can not have habitable Earth-like qualities or harbor life where there is no liquid water or a creature-friendly atmosphere.

What about the other planets in our solar system? Can't we just move to Mars and live there? In reality, it's not that easy. All other planets in our solar system are much too hazardous to visit (aside from Mars) with their crushing and toxic atmospheres. Some planets are too hot or too cold, like the sweltering Venus or the arid Mars. Unsustainable for life to flourish.

Mars might be worth visiting but traveling to Mars on a space shuttle at any given time will take at most 2 years on a one-way trip which is impractical. We need new, ingenious technologies that will break the established conventional paradigm and allow us to progress to the next evolution.

What is the message? We need to take global conservation and preservation seriously. WOW ROCK and associates care about our planet, our children and the future of humanity. Our name speaks for itself. Without the Earth, where would we (humans) go?

Over the course of Earth Week, think about what we can do to protect and celebrate the Earth.

Stick around for Part 2 of the Earth Day Blog~!
